There’ll be live music all afternoon and early evening, world festival food (falafel, burgers, curry etc all for 10 euros), a fancy dress tent, hot spiced cider, hay bales and bunting…you know, all the usual paraphanalia, with the exception of smelly portaloos and overpriced, underfilled drinks in plastic cups!

There’ll be numerous bands playing an hour set each from 3pm and a big band mash up jam at the end. The programme will be released on here sometime in the next few days (when I can get these busy rock n roll stars to call me back!)

In the interest of minimising drink driving we’re incentivising you all to walk, cycle, train or bus here by giving free vodka jelly shots to all that do!

I’d like to re-iterate that this is an afternoon event. Due to being in a village with lots of families around we’re free to make loads of noise during the day but the cut off point is 10pm so please please come early and support the guys playing in the afternoon.

My fingers’ll be crossed for glorious sunshine but if the gods decide to douse us with rain the show WILL go on but please bring warm clothing and brollies. We’ll cover the terrace as much as possible but we’ll need to keep the main door open so jumpers and beanies a must.

DRESS CODE: Eccentric festivalgoer (deely boppers, angel wings, random facial hair, silly hats, wigs, wellies etc etc..)

This return of summery weather is perfectly timed for today’s sunny terrace action but the predicted return of the rain tomorrow does not bode well for spectators of the Ultra-Trail.

If you don’t fancy supporting these outstanding (and bonkers) athletes in the rain amongst the throng in Chamonix, you can cheer them on from the sanctity and warmth of le Délice, beer in hand, or is that just a bit cruel?! They should be passing Le Delice’s perfectly long front window around 7pm on Friday evening, so please book your table if you’d like a front row, carb-consuming seat

What the brrr happened?? It feels like winter is coming early. Afternoon rushes of marshmallow topped hot chocolates has memories of busy après skis flooding back. I don’t know about anyone else but this is certainly not what I ordered!

Never fear though, my British mentality and blind optimism means we’ll still be putting on some live music for you this week. Last week the girls, Eleanor and Anna, rocked (albeit in a delightfully mellow dinnertime way) the terrace and so they’re returning, by popular request, this Thursday for another show. They’ll be playing a few sets between 6.30 and 10pm so come for an apéro or musical supper.

We were brilliantly busy last time so please reserve your table (tel:0033450915206) if you want to eat, especially if you feel the cold and would like to be inside. For the hardier and less organised amongst you, I suggest bringing a beanie!

Tuesday 10^th August  6.30-10pm

Eleanor and Anna, a lovely lady duo, are debuting. It’s the first time we’ve had them play at Le Délice and they’re relatively new to the whole gigging scene so please come down and support. Standing up there, singing your heart out, is a scary place to be, a few friendly smiley faces on the terrace never goes amiss.

Thursday 12^th August  6.30 – 10pm

Jon Dobson’s playing his usual mix of acoustic covers and own creations. Fresh back from a Roy Hart singing course he may have one or two new additions to his repertoire or at the very least some interesting tales of out of comfort zone experiences!

I hope business is booming for you Chamonix folk. The town is suddenly a seething, stream of ice-cream licking ants. Best avoided, methinks, unless you have a spare half hour to park your car, suitable weaponry to fight for and guard your terrace seat and the patience of a saint driving along the “oooo aaaagh” les Bossons glacier section of the Route Blanche. I suggest, in my totally unbiased opinion, that if you fancy a relaxed, delicious, sunny lunch or dinner to come to les Houches. We’ve plenty of parking, lots of room on our terrace, the sun till 9pm and no views of glaciers to make drivers suddenly pull to unsignaled emergency stops!

I know, at times, the bonkers taxes, laxadasical opening hours and frustratingly slow response times of businesses and workmen means we lose sight of why we are all here in this fabulous country. So on this French national holiday lets take our hat off to this delightful race, and remember all that we love about this country: the breathtaking scenery, fine wine, great weather and the relaxed gentle pace.

So don that beret and stripey T, come and soak up some evening sunshine, drink a cold glass of rosé, admire the view, eat a long drawn out dinner and check out the fireworks from the comfort of our terrace (pétanque balls optional)

I forgot to mention in my last update that we are a football free zone this World Cup. So all of you that’d rather consume dinner and drinks in a calm, relaxing and quiet environment as opposed to one with a soundtrack by vuvuzela blowing inebriates (dangerously sweeping generalisation I know )then Le delice is the refuge for you over the next few weeks!

We open tomorrow, Thursday 10^th June, at 5pm. The new evening menu will be available from 6 –  10pm. Rich and Doug will be playing music from apero time till 10pm, so fingers crossed our terrace will be sun-drenched not simply drenched!  

This season sees the return of our harem of ladies. Jackie and the Claires will be front of house again and Lou will be manning the fort in the culinary hub. There’s two new arrivals on our kitchen team, and one of them may even be male (da da da dah). Although we’ll see how he copes with us overexcitable ladies, maybe I should issue him with uniform ear defenders!?

Our new summer menu is a veritable medley of flavours. There’s twists on French classics, Asian inspired salads, Italian style tapas and some hearty vegetarian dishes. It will be posted here tomorrow once we’ve had a chance to taste and tweak the dishes later today (poor old us!)

Here’s a summary of what goes on over the summer here at Le Délice and don’t forget that our terrace catches the sun all day till it sets (well after Chamonix is plunged into cool shade) so not only are we a perfect spot for lunch but also for sunny aperos and dinner. If you are inclined to linger late then the amazing sunsets are not to be missed too.
